Charity shop aids key skills for residents!

Coach House, long term resident Mark has recently started a new volunteering adventure at our charity shop in Herne Bay, Bank Street.

Mark attends the charity shop every Thursday and this has become the highlight of his week. This is facilitated by the home, and he attends every week with a carer.

Mark’s skills, communication and confidence have grown greatly since starting at the charity shop. These skills have been able to develop because he has been given responsibility of charging customers on the card machine, he also greets every customer that enters and exits the shop.

Mark has come on a long way since he started this journey, and he has even said himself ‘I love the charity shop, and I look forward to it every week. It has helped me get out of the house’.

Mark sometimes finds changes to his routine difficult and struggles to want to go out and about, but he has been really enjoying this new endeavour of volunteering.

Frankie Brown (Fundraising and Communication Assistant) said: ‘When I first met Mark, he wasn’t very talkative and didn’t like to communicate much but recently I attended the shop and Mark was able to hold a conversation with me and expressed how excited he was to be volunteering’.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Mark for all his hard work in helping the shop to run on a weekly basis and we could not do this without you. THANK YOU!
