Lady Dane Farmhouse partners with Kent Fire and Rescue Service

Lady Dane Farmhouse in Faversham has collaborated with Kent Fire and Rescue Service to make cost-effective, practical fire safety improvements for our residents and staff.

Claire Dante, Registered Manager, said: “Working closely with Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been invaluable. After attending a Safer Care Seminar, I introduced fire safety workshops for residents and created easy-read evacuation signs. It has empowered our residents to take ownership and responsibility, they are now more prepared than ever.”

Claire held two fire safety workshops for the residents where they established if they could recognise a smoke alarm, what it meant, and what they should do in an emergency. This was then put into practice as an unannounced fire drill was held for staff and residents.

Other changes have been made around the care home, including having easy read picture instructions for residents on the back of their bedroom doors showing what to do if the smoke alarm sounds. As well as on the lift to show that it shouldn’t be used in a fire.

A huge thank you to Kirsty, Ruby, Kristina and Mike at Kent Fire and Rescue Service for their wonderful support and advice.
