Volunteer of the Month – October

Welcome to our first Volunteer of the Month post!

Starting us off is Gillian Tidman one of our lovely volunteers. Gill was Volunteer of the Month for October 2023, and it is truly deserved!

Gill’s role as a volunteer is charity shop volunteer. Gill volunteers in our charity shop twice a week and we could not have the shop open without all of Gills hard work. In addition to this Gill helps at lots of our events putting in a shift with different activities and making sure our events can run smoothly.

Gill has volunteered for only 6 months and wanted to share some of her time supporting a charity that holds the same core values as herself. She said: “I volunteer for Strode because I absolutely love working in the shop and I have gained such amazing friendships from my experience and time in the shop.”

And it’s the reward of volunteering that means the most to Gill. She added: “the one word I would use to describe volunteering is ‘rewarding’ there is such joy in seeing the work you do make such a positive impact on the residents and their daily life”.

We asked Gill what advice she would give to someone wanting to volunteer and she said “come and see for yourself, the friendly environment that you can work in, and I can guarantee you will make some amazing friends while helping to raise funds at the same time for such a deserving charity”.
